THE LOCATION
Essaouira, formerly known as Mogador, is a city and tourist resort in Western Morocco, on the Atlantic coast. The natural bay at Essaouira is partially sheltered (by the island of Mogador), making it a peaceful harbour protected against marine winds. Essaouira, established as a trading post during the 5th century BC, has long been considered as one of the best anchorages off the Moroccan coast. The Medina (city) of Essaouira with its white walls and ramparts dates back to the 18th century and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Listed city.
