FOOTBALL Academy

John Barnes MBE won 79 caps for England. A brilliant solo goal against Brazil in the Maracana Stadium in 1984 marked John’s arrival on the international scene and he went on to score 12 goals in a 12 year international football career. Barnes’ footballing career began at Watford FC in 1981. Barnes then spent 10 years with Liverpool FC, where he helped them to win the FA Cup and two League Championships. He retired in 1999 after brief spells at Newcastle United and Charlton Athletic. He was also PFA player of the year and has been inducted into The Football Hall of Fame. Since retiring from professional football, Barnes works as a TV pundit and presenter and also competed in the fifth series of BBC Television’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2007, where he became the first male celebrity to receive a score of 10 from the judges, which he achieved for his salsa!
